WELCOME!

My name is Heidi and I am an artist based in Northern Kentucky.

Heidi’s interest in art began with her first official drawing class in early high school. An intent observer since childhood, she found that art provided a means of communicating the beauty and detail she noticed in people and her surroundings. Under the guidance of art teacher Carolyn Baker, she was encouraged to pursue drawing, and eventually oil painting. During her senior year of high school, Heidi took private lessons from local painting professor Philip Lindsay of Wilson College. These lessons opened up a new world of Classical and Renaissance art history, painting techniques, and the rich narrative nature of painting. Heidi recently earned her BFA from Hillsdale College where she studied classical painting and drawing, sculpture, and art history.

“My goal as an artist is to share with others the beauty I find in that which I hold dear. The subjects of my work, whether people or physical objects, are deeply personal and represent a significant aspect of my life or past experiences. These often includes family members and close friends who I credit with shaping me into the person I am today. My passion for painting portraits stems from a desire to capture peoples’ personalities, and to communicate the things that are special them.

In an age that prioritizes speed and instant gratification, my hope is to draw people in through the craft of painting. I hope to reveal the life that a painting brings to its subject, which I have found to be the case for contemporary and historical painting masters. My inspiration stems from a variety of representational painters, past and present, whose work I continue to learn from. Some of these include John Singer Sargent, Émile Friant, Jules Bastien-Lepage, and the contemporary works of Richard Schmid. My hope is to continue to grow in the skill of painting, and to make work for the joy and benefit of others.”
